Tips & Guidelines

Enjoying the Outdoors

To enjoy outdoor adventures, be prepared and follow basic safety guidelines. Before hitting the trail, tell friends and family where you are going and when you will return as cell coverage can be limited in preserves. Prepare for all types of weather conditions and carry enough water and snacks for the entire day. While we do our best to create a safe environment, this is a nature preserve and wildlife call it home, so please stay on the trail. Also visit Trail Conditions and Safety before leaving to check for trail closures.

Come Prepared

  • Dress for all weather – bring layers and wear sturdy, closed-toe hiking shoes or boots.
  • Carry extra water – drinking water is not available on the preserves.
  • Bring a lunch or snacks, especially if hiking with children.
  • Bring a wide-brimmed hat, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
  • Bring a small backpack for extra clothes or equipment.
  • Keep valuables with you for safekeeping.
  • Pets are not allowed in open space preserves – please leave them at home.

Be Courteous to Others

When attending a group activity, please arrive at your designated meeting place a few minutes early. Choose an activity that fits your interests and skill level, and above all, have fun!
