Educational Docent
Atul has a wonderful Facebook Page called Travel Backyard, which is dedicated to encouraging local community groups to come out into the open space preserves all over the Bay Area. We are fortunate to have him as a volunteer because he is very passionate about nature and open space. His enthusiasm is infectious and he is a genuine pleasure to work with. He always brings an adventure and a smile and has a way of helping the most timid of visitors take part in a wonderful outdoor experience. Atul is also a gifted videographer and photographer. He has helped us with Healthy People, Healthy Parks programs by providing guest docents who offer Bollywood and Kathak dance lessons as a way of exercise in the outdoors. He finds fun ways to encourage a healthy lifestyle. Atul’s passion for wildlife has also grown to include his individual work toward the creation of fog harvesting watering sources for wildlife.

PRESERVE
As a volunteer for the Open Space Authority, you will help preserve and protect valuable natural resources for yourself and future generations. At the same time, you’ll get a chance to learn about the environment, meet interesting people, work hard, and have fun. Learn more about volunteer roles.
Enjoy and Protect
Trail Patrol team members are agency ambassadors and information resources for visitors, and commit to patrolling the Authority’s open space preserves a minimum of once a month, on foot, bicycle or horseback.
Fun and Fairs
Community Outreach Volunteers represent the Authority at community festivals, nature or science themed fairs, and other public events.
Restore and Preserve
Land Steward volunteers assist Authority staff with trail maintenance, habitat restoration, fencing and cleanup projects.
Educate and Inspire
Docents share information about nature and the Authority's mission and work, leading groups on fun, educational programs and activities.
